The 1:1 ABA/educational therapy/tutoring program at
The Cyzner Institute is a supplement and, in some
cases, an alternative to regular preschool/elementary
school. Tutoring is also available for elementary-aged
and middle school students depending upon content
area. The teacher-child ratio is one-to-one allowing
us to customize training for maximum progress. Teachers
follow a program, tracking each child’s responses
and skill proficiency. They meet with the Director
and/or Assistant Director to review instructional
plans and adjust them as needed.

Please note that further details for each program
are available in our Admissions Packet only.
The following three school programs operate during
the school calendar year, from August through May/June.
LOWER SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
Developmental Learning
Developmental learning programs consist of small classes
of three or four students and one teacher. Children
are considered candidates for this program if they
are of preschool-age to age 6/7. The focus is on school-readiness
and for each child this focus may vary. Final decision
of program placement is at the discretion of our Director
and Assistant Director. One of the teacher’s main
roles is to serve as a case manager and coordinator
of care. Assistant teachers and other instructors
are scheduled to work with the students individually
on their programs and in small groups for activities
such as arts and crafts, computer, gym time, and music
therapy. OT and Speech-Language consultation in the
form of small group intervention is integrated during
the course of every week.
Adaptive Learning (Kindergarten-Sixth Grade OR
Age-Dependent – Grade Level and Level of Independence
are factors considered for classroom placement.)
Adaptive learning programs consist of small classes
of students and one teacher. Assistant time is allocated
accordingly. Children are considered candidates for
this program when they present with significant delays
in the areas of social-emotional skills and independent
living skills as measured by standardized or criterion-referenced
assessment tools used by Cyzner Institute. These children
may or may not present with academic delays. OT and
Speech-Language consultation in the form of small
group intervention is integrated during the course
of every week.
UPPER SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade
For kindergarten through 6th grade, the classes typically
consist of four or five students and one teacher.
Assistant time is allocated accordingly. These programs
require a higher degree of independence than the Adaptive
Learning programs. In addition to academics, emphasis
is also placed upon creating times for working on
social skills and self-regulation. This piece of our
program is essential and required for our elementary
school students. This time will not only include social
and language skill building but also opportunities
to engage in group experiences such as working on
art projects or science experiments together. It will
also provide time for integration of learning about
cultural diversity and building character. OT consultation
and Speech-Language consultation in the form of small
group intervention is integrated during the course
of every week.
OTHER PROGRAMS:
Motor, Music and Social Skills Groups (groups
dependent upon interest and enrollment)
For those children eligible for our preschool-pre-K
and Adaptive Learning programs who are ready to further
develop their social and motor skills, we offer “clubs”
during regularly scheduled times during the week.
Children do not have to be students at the Cyzner
Institute Day school to participate. Children engage
in fun activities and games that help them develop
balance, strength and endurance, coordination, rhythm
and timing. They also learn to interact successfully
with others, which includes waiting their turn, sharing,
and communicating their desires and needs to other
children and adults. Note: If there is enough
demand, we will run these groups for older children.
